all about Louise

in no particular order this is what I am all about:

my family, our cats and dog, creativity, tea and biscuits, cooking and baking, aromatherapy, Frida Kahlo, audiobooks, doodling, honesty, headbands and scarfs, flowers, quiet time, nature, Monet, mindfulness, beach combing, fragrances, meditation, kindness, being curious, yoga, Agatha Christie, colour, fashion, therapeutic parenting, turquoise sea, murder mysteries, positivity, the female form, sunshine and having a small number of really good friends.

my style

is eclectic, expressive, bold and bright both in terms of my art and my fashion sense - you will often find me decked out with a good bit of headwear and colourful clothing whether I'm on the school run, walking the dog or painting away at home.

art as therapy

being creative is therapeutic for me and my creative process is organic; based around doodles, colours, feelings, movement and layering. When I get totally absorbed in what Im doing it is like a form of meditation for me.

sensory

I create pieces of art that are sensory, that convey a mood, a vibe or a message. I often include textiles and the pieces often make people feel that they want to reach out and touch them.

perfectly imperfect

as a recovering perfectionist this is what my art is about. It is about embracing the smudge and the squiggle, the wavy line, the merging colours and the happy accident, the handmade, the artisanal, the individual small business, personal approach. This all feels vital to me as a contrast to the ever increasingly homogeneous world we live in.

paintings

the organic nature of the textures, layers and gorgeous colours in my paintings mean that each piece is unique, you can get lost in the swirls of colour and the texture created. Each time you look at a piece you see something new.

female form

I am fascinated by the female form and want my paintings, drawings and lino prints to convey the beauty of real bodies and celebrate their lines and curves. My hope is that the images that I create allow people to recognise the power and awesomeness of the feminine - the goddess that each and every woman is!

lino prints

I really enjoy hand carving my own lino prints. It is a really mindful process and I like that each print can look so different depending on the ink colour and the background. The fact that the whole process is done by hand from the drawing and cutting to the printing makes each one individual which is very important to me.

doodles

are everything! I love to doodle away and just see what comes out onto the page. I think that doodles are very powerful. Doodling is very mindful for me. I think of doodles as my own form of journaling as they are a free expression of what is in my head at that moment in time. My doodles and sketches play a big part in informing the larger pieces of art that I create.
